Blocking off a fixed stretch of time turns a vague intention (“I'll work on this for a bit”) into a commitment with a clear finish line. 30-minute is long enough to get into real work and short enough that the end is always in sight, which makes starting far easier.
When the timer rings, stop. Take a short break, then start the next block. Working in fixed intervals like this is the heart of the Pomodoro Technique, and it works at any length you choose.
How to use this 30-minute timer
- Press Start (or hit Space). The countdown begins immediately. There is no sign-up.
- Work on one thing until the ring completes. The remaining time shows in the tab title, so you can switch away.
- Take a break when the chime plays. The timer switches to a short break on its own; after four sessions it offers a long one.
- Repeat. Your completed sessions and streak are saved in this browser.
Tips for a good session
- Silence anything that notifies you before you start.
- Write down the very next step so there is no warm-up when the timer begins.
- If something interrupts you, jot it down and return to it after the session ends.
- Keep the tab open. The timer stays exact in the background and the chime will still play.
